My grandmother’s best friend, Ann McGilliveri, was from Scotland. She gave me the recipe for these lovely cookies over 50 years ago.
The large amount of European butter is what makes shortbread short: meaning they’re delightfully crumbly, like shortcrust pastry should be. It is the reason why the fat added to biscuits and pastries is called shortening. These shortbread cookies are a fusion of Ann’s original recipe and a few extra special touches that I added.
They hold their shape if you want to dip them in a cup of coffee or tea and pair well with a cheese platter and jams. They melt in your mouth as soon as you take a bite. The hint of salt rounds out the flavor to bring out the sweetness.

PICKUP AND DELIVERY: Goods will be available to pickup from Xitrous from 10-12 Saturday morning so that they are fresh.
This is a small flat fee for delivery within the local Leesburg area and surrounding areas (Hamilton, Purcellville, Ashburn ONLY). Deliveries will be made Saturday afternoons (unless otherwise specified). If you’re interested, please add “Local Delivery” to your cart as well!
